Don't know if this has anything to do with your problem, but while I was installing a set of saddlebag supports last week, I noticed when I pulled the 12mm bolts off the fender, the whole sissybar and rear handle shifted a bit. Once they were reinstalled and torqued domn, everything went back into place. Could it be that one side of the fender bolts are over/under tightened? I would think that any loose bolts would probably make their presence known by rattling, but you never know.
